Destination Philippines
CEBU, Philippines - What an inspirational journey it was to see the world while staying under one roof! I recently attended a very well presented travel show that offered different destinations. One of the participants was our very own Department of Tourism, with its stall decorated with posters of our stunning islands and beaches.
Having met the experts, Richard from Manila and public relations officer from The Embassy of the Philippines in London, Rosario “Chit” Afuang from Iloilo, I took in the variety of travel options and information that was handed to me. Richard also gladly gave me a straw hat with “Dive Philippines” written across it as a souvenir to take home, as well as flyers and a digital representation to give to friends.
During the show, the Lahing Kayumangi Dance Company performed a variety of traditional Philippine dances. The spectators were truly impressed with the group’s performance.
Believing in what amazing things the Philippines have to offer is a good start to advertising our country. Being proud and nationalistic gives me the will to speak about our country at every possible opportunity. I never forget to remind my foreign friends that a step into The Philippines would be such an adventure with our many different islands! I also never fail to teach them a few words of our language and I’m amazed by how easy it seems for them to repeat the newly learned phrases. The Philippines has an advantage compared to other Southeast Asian countries because of our use of the English language. This eliminates the language barriers for our foreign visitors.
With my vast interest in culture and travelling, the Travel Show has inspired me to share the Philippine experience to everyone. Well done to the Philippine Department of Tourism!
