Nunelucio Alvarado's Pamilya Ni Alvarado at Maribago Bluewater Gallery

-

Nunelucio “Nune” Alvarado’s socially-conscious commitment to depict the onerous conditions of his home society in the sugar lands of the western Visayas, with its feudal-like structure of landlords and serf-like sakadas set to the timeless cycles of planting, burning, and harvesting of the crops inform and delineate his artistic style, set the inspiration behind his latest self-titled art exhibit, PAMILYA NI ALVARADO.

Sequel of Nunelucio Alvarado’s previous solo exhibits in the Bluewater Gallery, namely: PASKO NI ALVARADO (2005) and GUGMA NI ALVARADO (2006), the newly opened exhibit showcases Alvarado’s artistic interpretation of the family member’s intimate relationship with a deep view on the roles this individual take in the society.

Nune mounted his first solo exhibition at Sining Kamalig in 1979, and has been included in many curetted exhibitions at both local and international art venues. His most recent major exhibition, a retrospective exploring his career, was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila in 2004. Nune is a founding member of Familia Pintura as well as the Black Artists of Asia (BAA) in the 1980s. He also founded the group Pintor Kulapol in Fabrica, Negros Occidental in 1988. The formation of these artist groups was aimed towards the utilization of the arts organization as parallel institutions that would actively involve artists to community affairs. Nune Alvarado was invested with the Thirteen Artists Award of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in 1992.

Bluewater Gallery  welcomes guests and patrons to view PAMILYA NI ALVARADO which runs until  January 31, 2009. For public viewing appointments, one may call Maribago Bluewater’s PR and Marketing Officer Ruben Licera at (63 32) 232 5411 or email them at [email protected].
