Sony has been known for introducing many technological breakthroughs since it was founded over 60 years ago. These technological breakthroughs are even considered firsts in the world. It was Sony who introduced the first all-transistor radio in 1955, the first Trinitron Color Television in 1968, the first CD player in 1982, the first consumer digital video camcorder in 1995, the first “Blu-ray Disc” recorder in 2003, the first consumer digital HD video camcorder conforming to HDV standards in 2004.
And aside from manufacturing products that are considered firsts in the world, Sony has also maintained its top position in the market. According to Mr. Takashi Kozu, Sony Philippines’ vice president for marketing, this is because Sony has kept “tackling new things which nobody could achieve and try.”
“Sony is first not just in terms of powerful technology, but also in terms of meaningful technology. Our innovations are meant to enhance our customers’ appreciation of life,” added Mr. Toshiya Kagita, president and managing director of Sony Philippines.
To maintain its status of bringing first technologies to the world, Sony has come up with eight breakthrough innovations that are sure hits as Christmas gifts – the Bravia Z450, the world’s first Motionflow 240Hz LCD TV; the VAIO T Series, the world’s first noise canceling notebook computer; the Bravia X450, the world’s first RGB LED Backlight LCD TV; the Cyber-Shot T77, the world’s first slimmest camera with optical image stabilizer; the TG1 Handycam, the world’s first smallest, lightest and slimmest Full HD Camcorder; the NWZ-S730 Series, the world’s first noise canceling portable music player; the MDR-NC500D, the world’s first noise canceling headphones; and the a900 DLSR camera, the world’s first 24.6 MP full frame DSLR.
These eight breakthrough products, which are featured in Sony’s Christmas Treasures promo, were introduced during the opening of the first Sony Expo 2008 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall last November 14. Although the expo only ran until November 16, Mr. Kozu said the Christmas Treasures promo, which gives Sony fans big discounts, will run until January 18.
