June had me almost complaining for being swamped with celebrations that I could not keep up—so to speak. Well, that was just nothing compared for what was to come in August. Birthdays and weddings came in twos, Cebu’s premier club did a month-long transition party and just when I thought it’s all-gone, a Bikini Open competition sneaked its way in a northern resort enough to sizzle the rest of the 31 days.
It was a triple 8 when Beijing opened the Olympic Games with such grandeur and extravaganza. And seizing the luck of Chinese feng shui, young couple Christy and Malcolm Llanos exchanged vows in an intimate gathering of close friends and family. Though married through civil rights three years ago, this time around they sought divine blessing at the Lourdes Parish in Labangon.
With the many birthdays that came, it was my foster brother’s Jade Michael Aguilar and my goddaughter’s Ania Alejandrino that made a mark. Further, with no plans of celebrating at all, leave it to good friends to whip up a surprise for your own birthday. It was my “top 10” friends gathered at the chic-est restaurant in town, Chic and Fab at the Crossroads for a surprise brunch. Best and “top 1” pal Orly Cajegas organized the fabulous get-together along with Chic and Fab’s Jim Hiranpruck. Topping my day was a barbecue dinner hosted by my close friends in Liloan, Erla Arañas and Daisy Cabatingan along with my drinking circle. Thanks guys!
Meanwhile, partyphiles certainly had their more-than-enough share of nightly fun as the city’s only certified club, Vudu, unveiled its Transition party series. Cebu’s hardcore clubbers flocked to its weekend shindigs featuring Cebu and Manila’s top DJs spinning the latest in dance music. Finally, it was bodies galore when I hosted, after a longest time, a Bikini showdown at Compostela’s Bangnanan Resort. Despite intermittent showers, the audience remained to enjoy the sights and sounds as sexy guys and gals paraded their wares in one sizzling production. Whew! It was one hot show amidst a cold night.
