Fabulous Fifties

Sometimes, all that glitters isn’t gold. Just like Rose Hennessy when she was beaming with joy and glittered like gold when she celebrated her 50th birthday some two Saturdays ago! The mega amiable and charming birthday girl couldn’t let that special day pass by without gathering all her friends including a strong contingent of Hong Kong friends both from Cathay Pacific and beyond. The former Cathay Pacific stunner welcomed all of them at the Maria Luisa Clubhouse.

Since the night’s theme was “50s,” all the invitees were required to don their 50s outfits. So, as expected they gamely did, with no excuse since the invites were out a couple of weeks before the party yet, giving them enough time to prepare. Quite a number of them came in their reincarnation of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and more while their male counterparts were less imaginative with the exception of Glittering Gary who flew in from Hong Kong just for the occasion.

To compliment with the very special celebration, no less than Chef Raki Urbina of the well-loved Café Laguna was commissioned to provide the delectable food served that night. A toast was proposed to the birthday girl by long time Cathay Pacific crew mate, former model Mae Abellana and Rose’s dapper and dutiful husband Michael.

As part of the night’s fun highlights, a fashion show was presented by the 50s inspired ladies and gents while the fashionable and one of the metro’s young society royals, Butch Carungay and Manila’s knitwear queen Lulu Tan-Gan stood as judges. Such a tough job for both (not so for the men though), yet they had to come up with a decision. The winners were Bernie Aboitiz for the ladies and Glittering Gary, a no contest winner for the men’s category.

The winners started the dancing as the others followed. Indeed, everyone had a grand time much as Rose did that night and partied well ‘til the wee hours. She definitely was a picture of a happy “golden girl” that night seeing all her friends celebrating life with her! Cheers!
