The 60s on his 60TH

- Rycky Pilapil -

The sound of the Beatles filled the entire ballroom. Centerpieces for each table were the decade’s famous emblems: the peace sign and the smiley face. And as guests arrived in the halls of Casino Español’s Salon de España donning flamboyant fashion, there was no doubt that the 60s was in full swing for the night.

It was an all-retro revelry as Gerardo “Dodong Gamay” Frasco celebrated the big 60 late last month. Surrounded by family and quite a number of friends, he greeted his diamond years with a theme of music and fashion that spelled nothing less than absolute good-ol’-fashion fun.

The evening opened with a bountiful feast that filled everyone to their gastronomic content (yes, Titay’s sweet delicacies have had to be part of the buffet spread!) followed by musical surprises that brought us back to the roaring decade. Granddaughter, Ana Motus offered a ballet number while the celebrator’s contemporaries of the Liloan Fisheries Inc, an organization close to his heart, whipped out the biggest production. But it was the Sonny and Cher Show , which caught everyone’s attention, relived by no less than Liloan’s young mayor Duke Frasco and Atty. Christina Garcia Codilla, performing the famous rock-n-roll couple’s classic, I’ve Got You Babe.

Of course the program was never without loving messages for “Papa May” from family which included former Liloan first lady and sister-in-law, Cynthia Frasco, who flew in just for the occasion. And for his speech, Dodong Gamay recounted memories of his salad days and shared anecdotes on looking forward as a senior citizen. “Every decade, all I ask God is to give me another ten. That’s what I also wish for all of you present tonight,”he closed.

Here’s for more years to come. Cheers!
