As a culmination of the weeklong celebration of the Province’s 439th founding anniversary, Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia hosted an elegant Governor’s Ball at the Capitol Social Hall.
The soiree started with the entrance of Gov. Garcia at the patio of the Capitol building. She stopped for a minute as her grandson Jules placed a garland on her wrist. All eyes were on her as she walked on the red carpet wearing an attractive Philip Rodriguez off- shoulder gown of piña cocoon in coral with 13 layers of the same material cascading down the hemline.
Highlights of the celebration was the “Garbo sa Sugbo” awards given to the following: Dr. Francisco Nemenzo, former president of UP; Lt. Gen. Pedrito Cadungog of AFP; Lawyer Winston F. Garcia (brother of Gov. Gwen), president and general manager of GSIS; Deputy Speaker Pablo P. Garcia of the second district; Sec. Cerge Remonde (award received by wife Marit Remonde); DOT Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano (award received by Usec Edu Jarque); Sunstar editor-in-chief Atty. Pachico Seares; and Pete and Cathy Delantar of Nature’s Legacy.
Citation awards were given to Taiheiyo Cement Philippines and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Korean Electric Power Corporation, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, and a special Governor’s commendation to philanthropist Ramon Chiu.
What captivated the hearts of the guests were the songs rendered by the world-class UV Chorale. Their “Usahay” got a warm applause from the audience.
To Gov. Gwen and Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez Jr., congratulations for a very successful and fruitful 439th anniversary celebration. More power!
