The next time you run across any object d’ art from designer cum stylist Edwin Ao, think past the trends instead of focusing on them. Chances are, unless you’re hibernating under a rock, you’ll encounter any of his pieces when you care enough about what you put on your back. A few strategic swipes from this ubiquitous persona can put personality into your wardrobe. Trendy? Hardly. Cutting edge? Without a doubt.
“The one thing every modern woman (or man) needs, when dressing up is concerned, is letting go of the trends,” declared the youthful designer with conviction. Truly, many a fashion victim fell into that trap when every trend offered is devoured like a mindless drone. Individuality is the name of the game and this designer follows that mantra, which led him to where he is now— an honorary member of FDCP (Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines) and CFDA (Cebu Fashion Designers’ Alliance). He has done notable shows like the Metrowear series and the Samsung Style Watch at the Waterfront. Come September 24 at the Rockwell Tent, Edwin Ao, together with designer Protacio, will present their menswear for the anniversary of Metro Him. He is also an associate fashion editor of Zee Lifestyle magazine and his works graced the glossy pages of Preview, Mega, Metro, Wedding Essentials, Imagine and Zee. He started with being a finalist for the Mega Young Designers’ Competition and one of the highlights of his career was when he presented his collection at the Singapore Fashion Week. Hardly any notable shows pass in Cebu without Edwin Ao as one of the featured designers or as creative stylist with his heightened aesthetics.
With such an impressive resume, he, however, has remained grounded. A trait that’s elusive in the frenzy feeding fashion demimonde. A valuable trait every aspiring designer and stylist should imbibe. Bravissimo!
