Cebu’s Answer to Climate Change

- Ritche T. Salgado -

In July 7, 2007 (7.7.07), the world, in one voice, raised the reality of climate change through simultaneous concerts in key cities around the globe. Live feeds of the concerts in London, Tokyo and New York featuring famous artists like Madonna, U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers were broadcasted at The Outpost in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City. The message: SOS, Earth needs our help!

This August 8 (8.8.08), the same group who volunteered to organize that successful event will again congregate to answer the call on climate change.

Dubbed “8.8.08 Answer the Call: Cebu Concert for a Climate in Crisis”, the concert will feature eight leading bands and composers which includes Joey Ayala, Balde ni Allan, Hardwood, Hawak sa Tun-og, Juress, Leon Kilat, Mungkanghan, and Zarah Smith.

In order to drive the message across, video presentations, poetry readings, performance art, talks and discussions will be held in between the music performances.

Expected to give their messages are the Save Tañon Strait Citizens’ Movement (STSCM) and Greenpeace.

The purpose of the event is to inform the people, especially the young one’s, that even as individuals we can do our share in helping reduce our impact on the environment.

The concert will be held at The Outpost Bar on August 8from late afternoon until the wee hours the next day.
