During a recent check up, I was informed by my doctor that I suffer from sinusitis. I knew instantly that this wasn’t going to be easy. As this infection causes severe headaches and dizziness, it would clearly add to my migraines. I had to consider different ways on how to cure myself. All my doctor could give me was a prescription of ibuprofen and some good advice. At the end of the day, it is only I who can really help myself.
To lessen the severity of the pain, I started off by taking a few sips of lukewarm water to hydrate my body. As a second measure, I would clear up my sinuses with the help of a steamer when I’m at home and a portable inhaler when I’m out and about. When I feel slightly better, I would have a cup of green tea to provide comfort and yet more hydration. Inhaling steam while showering also really improves my breathing. Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! It plays the biggest role in preventing sinuses from blocking up.
I always make sure that my room has a portable humidifier or a vapour plug for nasal decongestant, as advised by my doctor since it helps me to sleep and breathe better at night and lessen the pain. My doctor also suggested blowing my nose as opposed to sniffling as this causes the sinuses to fill up.
Other remedies I would follow are applying a hot wet towel scented usually with a few drops of tea tree oil to help clear the nasal cavities. Before I go to bed, I always ensure to take the necessary vitamins to boost my immune system and fight off the infection of my sinuses. At the same time, I also make sure to get enough sleep!
There are many different remedies to combat sinus headaches, but as everyone responds differently, I have learned that it is only you who can see what works best for yourself.
