Ray’s Frock House

- Bobit S. Avila -

A trip into Ray Kuan’s frock house means stepping out in style. For this season, the enfant terrible and University of the Philippines alumnus dresses it up in luxury. A hooded dress in lame, a strand of pearls, a smart take on a white shirt, for a haphazardly put together, albeit, fresh new look.

Unveiled at the cavernous Plenary Hall of the Cebu International Convention Center for the University of the Philippines Centennial show, Ray Kuan’s array of clubwear clothes was so hot everybody wants to have a piece. Why? Why not? The collection is both ultra fashionable and functional, and Ray Kuan takes the mandate seriously and to a whole new level. An ingenious trapeze dress hides every unwanted fold and with a coordinated and detachable hood, it can function as a wrap. A wrap hooded white men’s shirt is water and windproof thanks to a very light PVC coating. And for sunnier days, it transforms into a beach cover up complete with protective shades. Indeed functionality runs high and it’s amazing to note that the style quotient is up too, sans basic accessorizing.

Adding futuristic flash to his silhouettes, metallic lame and jersey fabrics transformed into sleek dresses with sculpted platforms that add more leg length, thereby strengthening the proportion. Without a doubt, Ray Kuan’s stands above the rest because of his daunting desire to be unique.
