My World

It was chronicled that Italian editor at large Anna Piaggi once quipped, “Why is everyone in black?”, seconds upon descending into New York City from a transatlantic flight from Paris. She was in her usual garb, a cornucopia of hues from her favorite designers Christian Lacroix and Christian Dior. Both are known for their predilection to anything bright, as the designers obviously worship the color wheel.

And so does the new season collection of colorific hues from What A Girl Wants. Upon unveiling, Dianne Uy pointed out that “colors chase the dark clouds away!” Aptly put, our alternating rain showers and sunny skies can indeed dampen our spirits, as well as affect our health. Like all good things, the recent line was born out of necessity. The clothes are de rigueur for warm and cool weather. Fresh offerings are an ash grey shirred dress in jersey, equipped with an eggplant cardigan in the lightest single ply knit. Another hit is a mustard hooded dress that’s a perfect covering for heat and raindrops. Ingenious? There’s more. A tube blouse in basic black comes with a detachable long sleeved chiffon wrap and a shirt dress in melon and coral that can function as tops for denim or leggings appropriate for school or office wear or perhaps a day in the mall. Talk about multi-tasking, the new prêt-a-porter collection has many incarnations so one needs a keen eye for styling and re-styling.

Bravissimo!
