Last May 21, the CTAA Las Vegas coordinated with the Bogo Medical and Surgical Mission along with the principal sponsors Phil. Bisayan Society of Nevada, Philippine Medical Association of Nevada and Bogohanons of Southern California for a five-day mission held at the S. Verallo Memorial District Hospital in Bogo City. The purpose was to provide free professional health care services to indigent patients of northern Cebu, specifically the municipalities of Medellin, Daanbantayan, San Remegio, Tabogon and Bogo City.
The project was spearheaded by Executive Director Dr. Romeo Jurani and wife Nadia Catarata Jurani (most outstanding couple in Las Vegas), with them were Elly Verallo Delavin of California, Milagros Ylanan Daleno and sister Susing Ylanan Villanueva, Dr. Rose Jurani, Chonti Yap and a lot of volunteers from Las Vegas and Southern California.
Last April, fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon visited Las Vegas and met with Dr. Romy Jurani and talked about this mission trip in Bogo. The solon also met with Elly Verallo of California and also discussed the mission. To recall, two years after their first mission in Bogo, Elly has been raising funds for this project and with the full support of the Bogohanons, the group was able to buy medicine for the mission, and also distributed rice and sardines.
Speaking of medical missions, Congressman Salimbangon, in cooperation with MSYCFI, sponsored the “Operation Tuli” in Daanbantayan town. Held at the town’s park, the mission was headed by MSYFCI member of the board Dr. Clara Credo and Executive Director Monette Aliño. Doctors from private hospitals, nurses and medical students participated in the project.
After the project, Dr. Leandro Dublin, his wife Dr. Adelaida and only daughter Dr. Issa tendered a marvelous dinner for all the volunteers. We were amazed at the abundance of seafood served to us especially the giant crabs. Dr. Adelaida also gave us take home budbud made in Maya. Thanks too, to Mayor Sun Shimura for providing lunch for the team
