Bath Town Experience

ROVING IMP - Kristalle Marie Garcia-Kekert -

Peeling back the layers of the past, I could almost touch and taste the legacies left behind by the Romans. Indulging ourselves, we were greeted by this very elegant town called Bath.

In the ancient world, the Roman Bath was one of the finest thermal spas. When I witnessed one of this naturally hot spring bubbling up from deep underground, it filled me with so much vitality. Its view stole my heart, so I made sure to throw in a coin for good luck. This place has no shortage of peaceful spots, so I just sat back and enjoyed the spectacle.

In order to appreciate this town, I wandered along getting easily acquainted with its major sights, the Bath Reservation Trust Museums (four different museums that explain more about Bath’s heritage, together with a display of authentic setting), the Bath Postal Museum (to learn why postal services worldwide owe so much to Bath and how mail has been delivered through history) and refreshing is the scene on the town’s newest attraction, the Thermae Bath Spa, where members of the public are most welcomed to swim in the natural, warm spring waters.

Perusing local architecture sounds enticing, so I also paid a visit to Sally Lunn’s, Bath’s oldest house, built in 1482. This museum/restaurant is also the home of the famous Sally Lunn Bath Bun, a round piece of bread, topped with either sweet or savoury food. Inside the house lies the museum in the cellar, which displays foundations of the house and finds from recent excavations that have been displayed accordingly.

Bath’s beautiful, handmade glass collection, from traditional to contemporary, which are made using a variety of techniques, all come together under one roof! The Bath Aqua Glass is an ancient craft and a working museum where glassblowing is available. This “theatre of glass” is also one of the town’s signature attractions and I was very impressed.

In order to appreciate more of this town, I went onboard the open-air city sightseeing bus. Seated on the upper deck, I couldn’t help but notice that majority of Bath’s charm lies in having more personalized rather than commercialized shops lining almost every street! I also noticed that the street names are carved perfectly in stone on the corner of every building. Then, further along the ride, a tree branch swung across hitting my face! Although quite painful, I just laughed and didn’t let it put me off all the other photo opportunities.

Bath has been one favourite tourist destination and it’s easy to see why. Perhaps, ending this trip with a long indulgent soak in the Thermal Bath would promise an even more memorable adventure.
