Summer is what you make of it
It’s summer. Time to relax, enjoy and have fun. It’s the time to be involved in adventure and to practice skills and knowledge in a broader, more real-life context.
Maybe some of your friends are enjoying their summer vacation at the beach or in some faraway places. Maybe some are busy having workshops and summer classes in various academies.
And you’re still stuck up in your house, due to lack-of-budget, staring at the ceiling, doing nothing, counting the time as it passes by and enduring the heat of summer with boredom.
Well, it’s not yet too late to make your summer right by being productive or make it memorable. Happy memories need not be expensive. There are things to do and enjoy without spending too much money.
For travel enthusiasts, you can enjoy the sceneries of new places by exploring your hometown. For sure, there are beautiful places near you that you haven’t discovered yet.
Or, together with your friends or your family, you can spend one day having a picnic in your park, then next day in another neighboring park. With some new creative ideas and activities, the same old park that you see everyday will become a new experience for you.
For those who are academically challenged, you don’t have to be enrolled in a certain school to have an educational summer. If you want to learn a new sport, you can always ask your friend or someone you know to teach you the basics of that sport.
If you want to improve your dancing skill, you can invite your friends, who attend dance workshops, to your house and ask them to teach you some new steps. Same goes with singing.
You can also learn on your own some new artwork or language by reading books or watching educational shows on TV or go online.
For those who want to earn this summer, you can do so by collecting recyclable bottles, papers and plastics then sell these to junk shops or you can also make something out of it. If you are business minded, you can always have a shake or barbecue stand outside your home.
For those home buddies, there are lots of better things to do the entire summer, aside from just watching television all day. You can invite your friends to your house to watch your favorite movie series together, with ice cream or pizza.
You can start collecting old photos and memorabilia and let your creative mind work through scrap book making while listening to old familiar songs. It is nice to go down memory lane every now and then. You can also update your family album or trace your family tree.
Try to read and discover new authors and book series by renting or visiting some nearby library.
Start making your own flower or vegetable garden in your backyard. For sure, your mom would be happy to help you. You can also re-decorate your room and make it your personality. You can adopt a pet, play with it and walk it down your neighborhood.
For those who like social involvement, you can do charity work by donating your old toys, books and clothes. You can also participate in your community and church activities by helping in the preparation and organization of your barangay’s fiesta and Sta. Cruzan.
It is best to spend your summer with your family and friends. This may be the only time of the year when you can totally bond with them.
Make sure to have a productive and memorable summer so that when summer ends and school year begins, you can always have your own story to share.
