Honoring that special woman

- Dennisa Jane D. Pepito -

Mama, mommy, or nanay – whatever we call her, she will always be our beloved mother; the one who carried and protected us for months inside her womb, took care of us since childhood and brought us up.

In this time of the year, it is now our chance to show to our mother how valuable she is in this world and how important she is in our life.

Mother’s Day is the time for us to recognize the role of our mother in the family. So it is the time to make her feel loved and special. This Mother’s Day, how can you make it special for your mom?

For Zaldy N. Bughaw, 24, doing simple things would be enough to make her mother feel important. “I’ll give her flowers with a letter saying that she’s the best mom and I’ll kiss then hug her,” he said.

Like Zaldy, giving flowers isn’t just for girlfriends. Erwin P. Difuntorum, 22, would also prefer preparing beautiful flowers for her mother on this special occasion, together with breakfast in bed. “Also, to make her day even more special, I’ll help her do the household chores and give her a gift,” Erwin said.

“Aside from giving her a special gift card and saying how much we appreciate and love her, she’ll have no chores and no stress. We’ll give her the opportunity to rest and enjoy since she’s working during weekdays,” says 15-year old Roselle Margaret G. Dangin.

In cases like Joanne Catubay, 18, her mother is working overseas. But this is not a reason for her not to celebrate Mothers Day. “Since my mother is not here, I think the only way to make her smile is to call her,” says Joanne.

“Since we’re far from each other, I’ll call her and greet her. I think I can make it more special by sending her flowers. It’s my first time to do this,” said Alger M. Galace, 22.

“However, being special doesn’t mean preparing surprises, presents and all those exciting stuffs,” said Nikki Marie S. Geverola, 17, “it’s the spirit that counts… I know that the effort would be valuable enough.” As for Nikki, she’s not yet sure what to prepare for her mother but she’s quite certain that she’ll make her mother see what a wonderful daughter she is. “What I have, what I learn and who I am are all thanks to my mom’s loving efforts,” Nikki uttered.

Same goes with Fatima Yvonne C. Flores, 17. “Spending on material things may make her day but the thought of just being with her and thanking her for all the support she has given is already enough,” stated Fatima.

For Arnie Atuel, 18, showing his mother that he is happy would be the best gift to give. “I could make my mom happy when she knows that I’m happy. I’ll just do what is right and be natural,” Arnie said.

Making Mother’s Day special isn’t all about spending the most money to treat your mother to the best restaurant or spa in town. What is important is to give her the impression and let her see the sincerity of all the things you do for her and for yourself.

Whatever way you choose to do for your mother on this special day would really be special if it comes from the heart.

Happy Mother’s Day!
