Art converged in Cebu

A convergence of artists is what the 2nd Artlink in Cebu was as 41 visual artists of different disciplines from Manila and Cebu converged at the Grand Ballroom of the Cebu Country Club in Banilad last March 28 to 30 showcasing their artworks to the emerging Cebuano art patrons.

“We want to create a new breed of Cebuano art collectors who knows how to appreciate art,” said JP Gonzales of the Kaalyado ng Sining.

The Kaalyado ng Sining is an organization of art patrons responsible for putting up this trailblazing event. Artlink featured a cornucopia of art works from known painters led by two icons in the world of art: Mulong Galicano and Angel Cacnio.

A free art workshop for kids, students and adults not only taught the workshop participants how to draw but also how to appreciate art. While an interactive painting exhibition highlighted how harmony can be achieved despite a difference in style, technique and brush stroke.

“Our purpose is not just to unite artists from Manila and Cebu but also to teach Cebuanos how to appreciate and value art,” said Gonzales.

Cebuano artists who exhibited in the 2nd Artlink are Mulong Galicano, Gabby Abellana, Boy Briones, Tito Cuevas, Mon de Dios, Adeste Deguilmo, Raymond Fernandez, Carlos Florido, Bong Francisco, Fred Galan, Luther Galicano, Ber Hermoso, Jun Impas, Maxcell Migallos, Karl Roque, Dong Tallo, Tonee Vidal, Mar Vidal, Javy Villacin, Pepe Villadolin, Kimsoy Yap and Ritchie Quijano.

Manila artists included Angel Cacnio, Marichu Arandilla, Aris Bagtas, Noel Catacutan, Buds Convocar, Dems dela Cruz, Caloy Gabuco, Ed Lantin, Jun Martinez, Noel Obemio, Alfredo Perez, Fred Ramirez, Antonio Raymundo, Omi Reyes, Dan Santiago, Fidel Sarmiento and Joseph Villamar.
