The Mandaue City Fiesta 2008 Executive Committee recently announced the preparations being done for the upcoming Feast of St. Joseph the Worker from April 27 to May 10, 2008.
The highlight of the two-week festivity is the Mandaue Beauty Search 2008 which is composed of four major pageants: Miss Mandaue 2008, Matron Queen of Mandaue 2008, Prince and Princes of Mandaue 2008, and the Ms. Gay Mandaue 2008.
Anchored on the theme, “Making Mandaue A Livable City”, the Mandaue City Fiesta ExeCom headed by Atty. Briccio Joseph Boholst, divulged that some polishings have been done with of the activities, including the Mantawi Festival.
Mantawi Festival chair Alfonso Albaño said that the festival has been “reformatted so that it won’t be anything like the usual festivals.” There would be no more street-dancing instead the participants will be stationed in a fixed area where spectators could go and watch the group’s interpretation of how the city came to be. A showdown will then be held at the Mandaue City Sports Complex for the final judging.
On the other hand, the Mandaue Beauty Search Committee are inviting aspiring beauty queens to join the screening for the Ms. Mandaue 2008 pageant on March 29 to 30. The deadline for the submission of entries is today, March 26. Interested individuals can get the application forms at the Office of the City Mayor, the Mandaue City Hall, the Mandaue City Tourism Office, Centro Mandaue City, and at the Ignacio M. Cortes General Hospital.
Beauty Search Chair Emilio Pascual said that although they would prefer someone who is a student, working, or a resident of Mandaue City or has an ancestry traceable to Mandaue, although they will not limit their search to this qualification. He proudly claimed that the search has produced top-notched beauty queens who had excelled in other more established pageants. Pascual however said that this year, they have drafted an agreement that will be made with the contestants to retain the crown and not join any other pageant while she still wears the title.
