Philippine Christian Gospel School At 60

-

Moving forward with strengthened quality education

The history of   Philippine Christian Gospel School, the pioneering Christian school in the Visayas, spans over half a century—brimming with stories and milestones that illustrate that it is an educational institution that has doggedly pursued its vision despite many an obstacle that came its way.

It was in 1948 when the pioneering spirit and concerted action among members of the Cebu Gospel Church saw the need to propagate Christianity among the members of the Cebu Chinese community through formal education.

Today, the Philippine Christian Gospel School (also known as Cebu Kian Kee) rides high on its achievement, having molded countless of Filipino-Chinese students who have become esteemed leaders in various professions, in the business landscape and in the society as a whole, as well keeping its tradition and reputation of providing holistic education and spiritual development to new and future generations of Filipino Chinese.

Standing proudly on an 8,321 square meter lot that’s situated at the heart of Cebu City, the Philippine Christian Gospel School has further equipped itself, administration, faculty and students as seen in the fruition of its three-phase comprehensive campus development plan that practically rebuilt the school, from renovating and adding more classrooms, putting up more computer and science laboratories, to building a gymnasium, among many others. The most prominent development would have to be the Ong Lian Siong gym, the building of which jumpstarted the campus master plan in 2002. The gym not only boasts of stage, shower rooms, covered parking slots, and many other functional features, but is also fully-airconditioned. Another impressive phyiscal development is the brand-new five-storey building that houses the administrative offices, high school department, among others.

According to Dr. Wanda Po Liam Giok, PCGS school directress, all these are part of the school’s efforts to be consistent in fortifying its academic strengths, in the light of the school being recently awarded an accreditation. But also, Dr. Wanda Po Liam Giok, would like to stress, that amidst these changes, what remain constant in the school’s curriculum through the years are quality Christian values and character formation. This is in line with their mission-vision which is to provide quality Christian education that is Practical, Christ-centered, Globally-competitive and Service-oriented.

This year, PCGS celebrates its 60th year, and fittingly so, this March 1, PCGS will celebrate this latest milestone with its ever supportive alumni.

About 800 to 1,000 alumni members are expected to attend PCGS’ latest and grandest homecoming since 2002. Dr. Wanda, Po Liam Giok revealed that during the event, they will formally launch its alumni website, to truly “bridge the gap” of distance and time by having all alumni members stay connected, or better yet, come home to their alma mater.
