A Meaningful Cultural Entertainment

CEBU CAROUSEL - Joe C. Recio -

A cultural project of former Congressman Dr. Jose “Dodong” R. Gullas, Halad Sa Kinaiyang Sugbuanon is a memorable and meaningful cultural entertainment to be held at the Cebu International Convention Center this coming March 15, 7p.m.

The Halad Sa Kinaiyang Sugbuanon      Foundation, Inc. is a special project that Sir Dodong Gullas is setting up. The Halad sa Sugbuanong Kanta gave special honors to Ben Zubiri with his immortal love song “Matud Nila”; to Noy Inting Rubi and Mariano Vestil for the ever popular “Kasadya Ning Taknaa.” Halad Sa Kinaiyang Sugbuanon is another forthcoming milestone. It is another musical milestone in Cebu’s cultural landscape.

The foundation intends to recognize Cebuano composers’ songs for all ages, songs about love-struck Romeos serenading damsels of their dreams, of “Gugmang Putli Mao ra’y Pasalig, Maoy Bahanding Labaw sa Bulawan,” songs that touch the heart and uplift the human spirit.

Halad Sa Kinaiyang Sugbuanon gives tribute to the Sugbuanon long forgotten traditions of Pamalaye, Harana and Kulasisi sa Hari to be perfomed by students of the University of the Visayas. Sir Dodong Gullas is giving posthumous recognition to Cebuano greats in the field of music, Domingo “Minggoy” Lopez and Manuel “Maning” Velez, Cebuano novelty singer Max Surban and Kakoy Cañete of martial arts fame.

Their songs and compositions like Rosas Pangdan, Sa Kabukiran, Pagutlan and many others will be given life by the internationally renowned UV Chorale, and noted Cebuano artists Novo Bono Jr., Al Commendador, David Calero, Erlinda Dajao and Jaime Salazar.
