Know how to fight dengue!: Lolit Lamok shows you the dangers of dengue

-

The Department of Health (DOH) launched its 2008 National Anti-Dengue Campaign. This early, dengue cases are already being reported, prompting an early drive to beat the disease at the onset.

According to the DOH, dengue has become a year-round public health threat. Last year, 43,938 cases and 407 deaths were reported. It now rains even during the dry season in some parts of the country, increasing the chances of more breeding grounds for the disease-carrying mosquitos.

“Disseminating information is the key to solve the dengue menace,” Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III said.

The health chief is confident that the endeavors of the DOH combined with the help of the public will beat dengue.

“We can beat and outsmart dengue. But our success will largely depend on the willingness of our people to help and cooperate with the campaign,” Duque said.

OMF Literature contributes to the nationwide fight against dengue by helping disseminate information about the deadly disease. Published for its Hiyas line of children’s books, Nang Maghasik ng Lagim si Lolit Lamok by Palanca hall of famer Dr. Luis Gatmaitan is a good resource for dengue awareness.

Dr. Gatmaitan, also known as Tito Dok, explains how dengue spreads and affects people through the story of the disease-carrying mosquito, Lolit. Young readers and adults alike will learn of the steps they can take towards dengue prevention.

Tito Dok has authored many children’s books, including the popular Mga Kwento ni Tito Dok series. The series has been cited by the Manila Critics Circle “for its popularization of medicine in language and illustrations that young children can understand.” The fourteenth and latest story in the series is Aruy! Magang-Maga ang mga Tonsil ni JM!

Nang Maghasik ng Lagim si Lolit Lamok and Mga Kwento ni Tito Dok are available in bookstores nationwide, or for online purchase at the OMF Literature eStore, http://OMFLit.com. For more information about OMF Literature books, call 032.255.5012 or e-mail [email protected].
