Ode to Grecian Mode

FREESTYLE - Dexter Alazas -

Fashion’s references from period movies to epics to ancient mythology has always been evident on every designer’s signature style as they send a flock of models down the runways of Paris and Milan season after season. With the likes of John Galiano of Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace , and other haute couture masters, over the top-glam up styles continue to rock the fashion world,  allowing  us to still dream of bygone eras that have influenced our sense of style through the years.

One design philosophy that always remained a classic on the red carpet is the Grecian “Goddess” inspired silhouette that never fails to flatter every body type and size. The delicate draping and gathering of fine fabrics like silk chiffon and jersey that fluidly embrace the bodice like no other.

For 2008, prom fashion will be a mix of designs and styles, colors and silhouette. For this writer, a good design also includes quality and craftmanship , and that perfect fit for every shape.

Here are a few Grecian inspired designs to fit your figure:

1. Mustard and yellow wrap gown in silk chiffon

2. Indigo blue jersey gathered and pulled juxtaposely

3. Salmon and mauve number with embellished waist belt hugger

4. Turquoise and aqua asymmetrical drapes with floral cut-out appliqués

5. Plum and purple haze monochromatic chiffon with cut-out pattern appliqués
