Pahugyaw sa Sayaw shakes up Ayala Audiences

- Sarinah Soliano -

Curtains closed for the Sinulog celebration.  Oh well, it’s over now but just for a quick recap, the event was entirely overwhelming with all the street parties, grand fireworks displays and of course the Grand Parade. But before that, the event kicked off with Pahugyaw sa Sayaw held at Ayala Center Cebu showcasing dance numbers of various festivities here in Cebu.

Artistic Director Junjet Primor energetically imparted that the organizers selected the best festivals in our locality and invited one outside the region – Surigao. And these contingents are champions of past Sinulog competitions.

Setting the event in motion was Mantawi Festival of Mandaue with their green-colored costumes, followed closely by Siloy Festival of Alcoy – kids dressed up as black birds paired with ladies in Filipiniana outfits sporting pole sticks with leaves attached on top which served as trees. Caranza Festival of Danao was next with dancers in sunny attires.

The presentation of Palawod of Bantayan Island awed the spectators as each dances carried fish props signifying the products of their locality. The Bunok-Bunok Festival of Surigao was well-applauded.  The performers in bright red apparels appeared as disabled people and devotees to our beloved Sto Niño.  Tribu Basakanon of Basak San Nicolas definitely grabbed everybody’s attention through their frenetic free interpretation.

The excitement lingered as all entertainers concluded the show with a production number. Capping off the night’s event was a grand fireworks display simultaneously succeeded by Cebu’s premiere showband, S.R.O, who took pleasure in amusing guests with their powerful notes and superb voices.

We’re looking forward to next year’s affair!
