Thank You, People!
Sparkling lights fill each corner as I pass every house when I walk home. There is something in the breeze that make me reminisce the moment I wander alone outside our school campus. Shoppers rush to start looking for items on their list. Ahh… Christmas!
The sound of the endless Christmas tunes reminds me of the old days when I used to go home early and do my usual Christmas routine: watch Christmas cartons, check on my cousin’s homes if they had toys and stuff and remind my mama to include in her recipe the foods that I would like to munch on Christmas eve. Moments like these would make me smile and wish and hope that everyday would be Christmas.
Lots of presents to give and receive, lots of fireworks display to witness and lots of gatherings to enjoy. We should be grateful for these wondrous blessings given to us each Christmas day. But let us not forget the people who gave life to every moment that we spent. This Christmas, I would like you to ponder on the following list of these significant people and to bear in mind that Christmas wouldn’t be the same without them.
Family. We see them everyday: Papa taking his early morning breakfast, sipping his favorite coffee and poring over the daily newspaper and Mama getting all the laundry done, putting flowers in that adorable vase and cleaning all the mess at all sides of the house. Your brothers and sisters helping you on your assignments amidst their busy schedules. Aunties and Uncles who would take their time to visit and say hello. Dear cousins who love to tease and laugh, joke and whack. And Grandma and Grandpa going over their ancient tales of mystical creatures and haunting ghost stories.
Friends. No man is an island! Friends are the most-needed people to turn to whenever you have fears and yearnings, inspirations and dreams, hopes and expectations. Nothing beats hanging out with your pals when school is done and the weekends are about to come.
Teachers. Despite the fact that they give you projects to be done, deadlines to meet and even extra homework on a Friday evening, they mold you into better individuals. They want the best out of you and the only way to bring out that successful “you” is to learn your academics the “HARD” way. Remember that the few Einsteins in today’s modern world had to undergo torture (in a positive manner, of course) before hitting the spotlight.
Classmates. They support you in whatever quiz bowls you join, cheer you on your championship games and just simply share the hard assignments that you didn’t browse through the books in the school library because you were so dependent on the world wide web, the Internet so to say. And let’s not forget the smiles that you get from them every time you step inside the classroom.
Managers. Some may be harsh, others resilient, still they are the bosses of the company that you belong. Don’t be too attentive on their negatives. Instead focus on the fact that they’re working for the good of the business. And if they go a little overboard with their treatment, remind them gently that you and your colleagues are worth being respected.
Co-workers. Competitiveness may be a dominant trait in each of your associates but always keep in mind that you work as a team. Don’t forget the companionship that you feel whenever you work overtime. When you are already out of money, they treat you to lunch just to fill that empty little stomach.
So there you go, the people whom you shouldn’t forget to show appreciation this yuletide season. If ever I may have forgotten some, well, you might as well include them. The longer the list, the better it would be. Better start plucking up your courage now and express your sweetest lines to them!
