Philippine Fashion Week 2007 Reportage: Marvelous Marichu Tan
March 30, 2007 | 12:00am
Amidst the dizzying frenzy at the thick of the much ballyhooed Philippine Fashion Week at the Rockwell Tent, homegrown Cebu designers made a milestone in style and design... enough to elicit a remark from fashion maven Frederick Peralta, to quote- "Cebu designers define Cebu as much as its world class beaches and hotels!
Cebu should have its own Fashion Week and Manila designers will be there to support it just as what's happening here." "Remarkable pronouncements from an established colleague is very much welcome," quipped the lady designer in focus here. Thunderous applause welcomed Marichu Tan with her Archi-textural Collection, so dubbed because it is!
Set with twin yellow ochre runways, her collective idea was translated into dresses, blouses, short shorts and billowy trousers and indicates the shape of things to come, and more! Archi-textural Collection is appropriate for her architectural dresses with more than a dozen varied fabrics tiered, treated and pleated to perfection. Lace, metallic satin, Thai silk, organdy, chiffon, organza are just a few. Cut in bias, the dresses give extra movement and more comfort. Indeed a heightened reflection of comfort and ease in metropolitan dressing. Introducing the new form of electric pleated high waist palazzo pants, topped with zigzag detailed blouses and beaded felt berets which allowed chic that was buoyed to stratospheric spheres. A combo of swingy sunburst pleated blouses in stretch chiffon with lace and twill short shorts spelled luxe wear with a capital L!
To Marichu Tan, bravissimo!
