ROVING IMP - ROVING IMP By Kristalle Marie Garcia-Kekert -
We are all a bunch of romantics, but do we really believe in love at first sight or do we really think that we could die of a broken heart? Still unsure? Decide for yourself.

Can you fall in love at first sight?

YES:
Great beauty has always been considered to be the trigger of love and sudden infatuation. Extreme passion means that we often fall faster and harder. I agree with love at first sight, but I'm not entirely sure if this exists. When a person is in love, their frontal cortex is deactivated meaning that they're less judgemental about the object of their affections and will tolerate things they wouldn't do normally.

NO: Maybe it does exist, but on the other hand, maybe it doesn't. I think that we all need to know someone well enough to love them. We have to admit that we get attracted to the opposite sex because of their looks, but that does not mean that we love them that instant! Then, love can develop from that attraction. As simple as it is, when you meet someone for the first time, you don't know each other well enough to be able to love them and it will be quite sometime before you actually do.

I would probably say NO.

Can you die of a broken heart?

YES:
Yes, particularly if it is a once in a lifetime romance. Just like pigeons, I always knew that they cannot live without a partner, that's why pigeons are a symbol of love and marriage. When one dies, the other tends to feel lonely and eventually has had its time. Loneliness can lead to sleeplessness and severe depression, which weakens the immune system. This then could lead to heart disease. I always believed that men are weaker than women and it is harder for them to cope when they lose a partner as men are "babies" for life and always need to be looked after. How can you cope if you truly love someone and live longer without them?

NO: This is probably what we will read in romantic novels. It does not mean that we will stop doing what we normally do without our partner. If someone declares that they are dying because of a broken heart, this is probably just an addiction. Everyone goes through pain after a break-up or death of a loved one, but this does not mean that it will go on forever.

I would choose YES.
