12th ASEAN Summit in Hilton Cebu

The Association of Southeast Asian Nation is an organization of countries in Southeast Asia set up to promote cultural, economic and political development in the region. ASEAN was officially formed in 1967 with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration.

The original five members included Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Since its formation, ASEAN has been growing slowly , more counties in the region have gained membership. Through co-operation the goal of organization is to increase the welfare of the people in the region, both economically and culturally.

The recently concluded 12th ASEAN SUMMIT was held in Cebu giving it more formidable place in the globe. Among the participating hotels and resorts in Cebu, only Hilton Cebu Resort & Spa was occupied fully by one participating country. Hilton Cebu Resort & Spa was home to the entire Japanese delegates, media, Administrative Officers, Ministerial Constituents, for more than two weeks, and the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who arrived on January 14.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the First Lady, together with his Cabinet members: Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Suzuki, Executive Secretary to the Prime Minister Mr. Yoshiyuki Inoue and Mr. Hajime Hayashi of the Japanese Security Command post, Mr. Kunihiko Miyake arrived at Hilton Cebu Resort & Spa, to attend a series of meetings, including the bilateral talk with the Republic of China. They were greeted and warmly received by the resort's management, headed by Mr. Manuel H. Osmeña, Chairman - Goldland Philippines and Mr. Peter Pedersen - General Manager.

Nestled in a private beach overlooking the emerald green waters of Mactan Island, the resort is Hilton's first foray in the Philippines after an absence of 17 years from the archipelago.
