For those who don't know, "Chong" means highly respectable and "Hua" means overseas or immigrant Chinese. Chong Hua first opened its doors in 1909 for immigrant Chinese only. This was to cater to all the hospital needs of their fellow Chinese. But soon after, they began to offer their services to the general public here in Cebu City.
At present, Chong Hua aims to render service not only here in the country, but to the rest of the world. They are having different consuls from China, Korea, Turkey and United Kingdom as their clients.
Chong Hua Hospital is a prominent institution in the country because of the valuable service of its health workers and employees. They therefore have decided to show their gratitude by looking at their glorious past because, probably, we will never have their prestige at present or a rosy future if it were not for the past.
Meanwhile, Dr. Helen Go, Chief Operation Officer, got the strong support of the hard working people behind her, as well as that of the board of directors, as a result of the hospital's achievements. Likewise, she extends her appreciation to the publication committee. "We are all looking forward to our centennial anniversary in 2009. History and progress are made tangible through print publication. And the success of this book is directly related to every individual," Dr. Go added.
The coffee table book contains a comprehensive reference for the understanding of the history of Chong Hua Hospital. This is a tribute to the founders of the hospital and their legacy in creating its vision.
It also aims to allow the readers to gain a deeper appreciation of Chong Hua's heart which is to provide quality community service and for them to forever remember the mission of Chong Hua for the next 100 years.
