TF Foundation embarks on "Adopt an Angel (Year 2)" project
November 13, 2006 | 12:00am
With the overwhelming joy The FREEMAN Foundation was able to share to 50 indigent children last Christmas, the worthwhile undertaking is being replicated this year as the "Adopt an Angel (Year 2)" project was launched recently in informal rites. This year's theme reflects the significance of the core of our mission - "Sharing Everything We Own - Our Heart, Our Life, Our Time, Our Vision".
The 16 volunteers of the Core Group would once again "tap on window panes, knock on doors and implore for people's tender mercies" so we could again bring joy to another batch of indigent kids. Through your support, we would be able to match, if not surpass, what magnitude this particular project had extended to the lives of those children of the first batch.
December 10 last year, we gave our hearts to 50 indigent kids we identified and picked from various depressed areas in the metropolis. We were assigned to gather three children, each, at most. With the help of Sulpicio Lines, Inc. and Chilen's Chicharon, we were able to provide them with shirts, shorts, pouches, and their first meals (pospas or porridge with stripped chicken meat). Afterwhich, they were taken to the Family Park in Talamban where they were treated to games and other fun activities.
Although the foundation solicited the support of a number of sponsors like the Metro Cebu Water District, which provided the venue of said event, funds pooled through solicitations and from Operation Damayan of the Philippine Star for the early morning feeding program, the foundation appealed for more help.
The response was overwhelming. There was even a woman who skipped throwing a birthday bash for herself just so she could donate her P10,000 for the indigent kids. The rest of those golden-hearted donors found it comfy to be acknowledged in anonymity.
Also, donation in the form of toothbrushes, tumblers, toothpaste, towels, coloring books, coloring books, coloring pencils, crayons, notepads, shirts, food items, toy items, and grocery packs for the prizes during the games were accepted. Meridian Realty supported this endeavor and in fact had the event saved on video by staff members for their copy. Jollibee provided lunch for the children, while its mascot entertained the kids.
So, here's what! This year, we are selling Christmas angels, small lanterns and big lanterns priced at P50, P75 and P100, respectively. Should you buy any of the items, this shall bear your name. You have the option to hang this on our Christmas tree at the Editorial office, the Production division or at the Administration building or we will hang them for you. Your donation will be issued an official receipt, don't you ever worry because that is a foundation policy (since we have been victims too of conmen who pose to solicit money on behalf of us, we wouldn't want them to go on preying on us and you. Should you doubt persons as such don't hesitate to call the attention of Arlene, Faith or Joy at 2550926 or 2531276. We will feed them to the dogs, for you! I, personally, am tired of these human vultures. Hastang pobre biktimahon pa!)
We advise you then to be very careful in channeling your "tender mercies". We will acknowledge donations/sales of said Christmas items at our Public Service section in The FREEMAN. Proceeds of this fund-raising activity will support our Mass Feeding program on December 18 as well as the prizes for games, fun, surprises and the distribution of gifts and goodies (pang-Noche Buena) to the children. The program is to be held at the Fort San Pedro at the Plaza Independencia.
We thank you very much for believing in the sustainability of this project. You all know too well that desire in excess caused the angels to fall, and knowledge in excess caused man to fall. But in charity, there is no such thing as excess!
