Salvador Malto Romances with Fashion TV
September 1, 2006 | 12:00am
Fashion TV is here at last. The channel that delves into fashion as an insider and transmits subtle but visually powerful images 24 hours a day is here to stay. At the launch and hip opening of FTV Café inside the International Academy of Film and Television pueblo-like compound in Mactan Island, its linear structure became the latest fashion arena as Salvador Malto unveiled his Romantic Safari collection. Cebu's top runway mannequins from M.A.C.>Models Association of Cebu sashayed down from the spiral stairway down to the impromptu ramp to the heart-stomping beat of house music.
Down came Elvira in a perfectly tailored nude coat dress with a chocolate brown lace scarf and lots of attitude that reminds one of Veronica Lake. Then came Fern in a frilly lace blouse that skims her washboard flat tummy and sherbet colored short shorts with an animal print scarf - all highlighted in her signature sexy gait. Following closely is Angel in crisp white shirt with puffed sleeves and chocolate brown lace skirt that Lauren Bacall would surely love. An ingeniously draped transparent jersey is layered over a print halter dress with the ubiquitous animal print fabric made into straps was donned by Carliz. Out strutted Guia in khaki trousers and a chocolate brown jersey tank with wide lace scarf that can be Katherine Hepburn's de rigueur wardrobe.
The rest of the Romantic Safari collection distinctively displays Salvador Malto's predilection to quirky clothes that show mastery of cut and texture and an obvious affection for the bygone era juxtaposed with modern styling. The soft-spoken aesthete's debut collection for FTV is, without a doubt, a match made in fashion heaven. Bravissimo, Salvador Malto!
