Last Sunday, August 6, 2006, spectators were treated to a grand spectacle as cluster-participants coming from the different departments of the Provincial Capitol formed six competing groups as they vied for the win.
The contest, aptly titled "Suroy Suroy sa Matahum nga Sugbo", showcased the LGUs' existing festival jingles/theme songs with concepts of unity and cooperation, showcasing dances with distinctive features like culture, lifestyle, livelihood, festivals, landmarks and others.
Presentations were focused on any of the local government units involved in the three Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo 2006 tour packages - Southern Heritage Trail, Northern Escapade or Rediscover Camotes. The Southern Tour included Naga, Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc, Alcantara, Moalboal, Ginatilan, Samboan, Santander, Oslob, Boljoon, Alcoy, Argao, Sibonga and Carcar. The Northern Escapade was composed of Consolacion, Compostela, Danao City, Carmen, Sogod, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remegio, Sta. Fe, Madridejos, Bantayan, Borbon, Catmon and Lilo-an. Rediscover Camotes consisted of Tudela, San Francisco and Poro.
The clustered groups were Jailers, who danced to the beat of the Sarok, Soli-Soli and Karansa festival jingles, Unified (Kabanhawan, Caballo, Sadsad), Agri-Meds (Tostado, Inasal, Bonga), Legislators (Palawod, Sinagat, Sinanggiyaw), Executives (Siloy, Kabkaban, Kadagaya), and Builders (Mantawi, Haladaya, Kadaugan sa Mactan), the latter emerging as this year's victor.
Graced by the Hon. Governor Gwen Garcia, the 437th Founding Anniversary culmination at the Cebu Provincial Capitol was a concrete reiteration and proof of the Governor's philosophy - "Dili ang Sulti Maoy Pabuhaton; Buhat Maoy Pasultihon".
