United Talents Association of Cebu
April 22, 2006 | 12:00am
Geared towards developing young talented performers especially in the field of dance, the United Talents Association of Cebu (UTAC) was organized with the concept of forming a group of performers duly acknowledged by the Cebu City government to act as an arm and serve as linkage or performing diplomats in all its socio-cultural invitations and activities.
UTAC is a non-stock, non school-based, non-government organization composed of several dance groups committed to the task.
The idea of forming this unified group came about when Mr. Cedric Tumulak (the Adviser of the group) of the Office of Councilor Edu Rama saw the potential of the invited groups during an invitation for "Pasko sa Sugbu" last year. A performing group standing by to answer the call for any Cebu City government invitation comes in quite handy for the cause.
UTAC is composed of performers coming from south and north eastern Cebu - featuring D'Abyss, Disco Jammers, All Star B-Boys, Wyvern Dancers, Lumad Basakanon Dance Troupe, Banoansaka Ethnic Ensemble and Pundok Sayaw. The names of the groups alone strongly suggest an array of dance performances ranging from cultural to modern, in a way eclectic, but definitely a surefire hit as the group strikes onstage.
Fresh from its acquaintance beach party last month, with a membership of close to a hundred, UTAC is scheduled to initially perform on May 1, June 1 and 12 this year with venues depending upon final announcement.
With membership ever growing with the right government support, UTAC poses as a perennial phenomenon for events to come. Good luck to the group.
