Making his Mark: Accessory Designer Mark Tenchavez
March 31, 2006 | 12:00am
A trip to the City of Lights can do wonders to one's creative juices. For the Concours International des Jeunes Createurs de Mode, artist Mark Tenchavez competed as our country's representative along with four others for the Accessory Category. And Paris was conquered and ooh-ed and aah-ed! Mark Tenchavez' much ballyhooed entry is a headpiece that derived its inspiration between the harmonious yin/yang of the exotic East and dynamic West. A merry mix of tassles, Swarovski crystal beads, some coco beads and shells and voila! the winning entry.
Most recently, the Teatro Casino became another fashion arena as accessory designers Mark Tenchavez and Charlie Manatad unveiled their latest collections of fantabulous necklaces, earrings and headpieces for men and women in a show dubbed Gotisque de Espiritu. Tenchavez' models, clad in white silk chiffon column dresses by Mario Colmenares, were air nymphs that exuded fluidity in motion. Masked and bejeweled with elegantly sparkling earrings and necklaces that evoked stratospheric influences, distinctively Mark Tenchavez' coup de grace.
Then out came model hunk Harold Dee, masked and clad in gold Salvador Malto briefs, with superb necklaces, bracelets and earrings crisscrossing his chiseled features and buffed body. That brought the house down amidst applause from receptive special guests, clients and audience.
Kudos to Mark Tenchavez and the director of the show Ms. Marti Ybañez. Special thanks to Casino Filipino Cebu.
