The Old Warriors Foundation has unanimously elected former USC Warriors captain ball Atty. Danny Deen as its charter president during its special meeting and election last Wednesday at Baseline Restaurant.
Deen was installed president without contest for being one of the members of the most successful USC Warriors team in the 50s. He was the skipper when the Warriors, then mentored by the late Juan Aquino Jr., dominated the CCAA from 1956 to 1958 seasons where they have two championships and one second place finish.
The Warriors advanced to the CAAA finals for the last time in 1979, but only placed second.
The only other officer elected was Julian A. Macoy, as treasurer. Macoy, a native of Dumanjug, Cebu, scored 126 points in their 152-85 victory over the Cebu Schools of Arts and Trades in 1958.
Deen said there's no need to have so many officers because what is important is that they already have a treasurer who will take care of their funds.
The members of the Old Warriors will meet again on January 17 in order for former Warriors coach Bobby Reynes and Nilo Velasquez to be able to attend the meeting.
Reynes is now residing in New York City, while Velasquez is residing in London. Both are leaving on January 19 next year.
Aside from Deen, also present during the charter meeting of the Old Warriors Foundation were Atty. Baldomero C. Estenzo, Bobby Baria, Berting Colina, Nilo Velasquez, Fanny Gonzales, Bobby Reynes, Raul Reyes, Nene Palmares and Baseline Restaurant owner Doring Cañizares.
The Old Warriors Foundation will meet once every three months.
All former players are requested to join the foundation.
