CEBU, Philippines — To expand on the Cebu City Tourism Commission's (CCTC) efforts, the next batch of Miss Cebu hopefuls will have the added task of engaging in content creation.

“One of our plans is to mentor the upcoming candidates to become content creators. This will be one of the things expected from the finalists,” Miss Cebu pageant  chairperson Philip Rodriguez told The FREEMAN over the weekend after a two-day screening for the 2025 edition at Cebu Ocean Park and Events Center.

“We will be training them to be up to date with what’s happening in Cebu, which will be one of the ways to promote Cebu.”

With the beauty tilt's advocacy rooted in tourism, content creation will help CCTC bolster the Queen City of the South's appeal on social media.

“You cannot discount that social media has changed how people view things. In the past, people relied on books for information. Now, in social media, everything is instant information,” said Joey Gaisano, CCTC’s Commissioner on Finance.

“Through this, we’ll showcase the lesser-known stories of Cebu, not just the usual spots like malls. We want to highlight places in Busay and other areas that may have gone unnoticed. The candidates will be equipped to share these stories through content creation,” Gaisano added.

Miss Cebu -- one of the highlights of the annual grand Sinulog Festival -- will deliberate on its official 12 candidates until September 30, with the final line-up set to be revealed next month.

“We have a strong group of candidates. They are all articulate and they have their own stories to tell that will surely interest anybody,” Rodriguez said.

Those aspiring to succeed reigning title-holder Zoe Cameron should be a “Cebuano with a heart.”

Rodriguez explained, “That is our theme for next year, which means someone who is very strong and aware of what’s happening around her in Cebu. The love of Cebu starts from her.” — (FREEMAN)
