CEBU, Philippines — As major Filipino studios partner with streaming platforms such as  Netflix, Prime Video, or VivaOne to distribute their content, indie Cebuano production company BisayaFlix took a different route. It recently launched its own streaming platform, bringing their content directly to audiences' fingertips.

"These studios and streamers have their own systems, so we should have ours too for releasing original content," Camacho said during the app's launch at SM Seaside City, coinciding with the premiere of BisayaFlix’s latest action-thriller "Aset", which he both stars in and directs.

The platform will host BisayaFlix’s original productions, ranging from full-length movies to unscripted television shows.

“Our goal at BisayaFlix is to create quality Bisaya films. With this app, there’s now a place where you can watch all Bisaya-made movies and TV shows,” Camacho added. “When we spread the word about BisayaFlix, especially in Visayas and Mindanao, people will know there’s an app to enjoy Bisaya content.”

The app is available for download on both Apple iOS and Android devices, with a subscription price of P99 per month — making it accessible while generating revenue to fund future projects.

Currently available on the platform is the romance drama :Sugdan na Ang Sakit", starring Camacho and his real-life partner, former Star Magic actress-singer Akiko Solon, which premiered at SM Seaside last February.

Other titles on the platform include the action-drama series “Atong Storya, Among Storya”, the crime short film “Haring Gangis” directed by Bernardo Carpio, and BisayaFlix’s reality singing competition “Bisaya Icon.”

The Cebu City-based studio plans to produce more original content for the platform, including a live noontime show with a studio audience, talk shows, and reality series with concepts inspired by Pinoy Big Brother and American Ninja Warrior. The streamer is also open to hosting third-party content from other Bisaya filmmakers and producers.

The app was developed by California-based company Knewt Media LLC, led by Brian Fitzgerald, who was impressed by Camacho’s vision.

“I saw how passionate the people at BisayaFlix are about this project. I’m very impressed that they consider BisayaFlix a community project,” Fitzgerald said.

Reflecting on BisayaFlix’s mission to create original Bisaya content and promote the language and culture, Camacho said, “There are so many talented Bisaya people, which is why we want to create our own content so those across the Philippines can see what BisayaFlix is all about.” — (FREEMAN)
