Anthony Taberna joins ALLTV’s pioneer slate

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

For his wit and no-nonsense commentaries, broadcast journalist and radio commentator, Anthony Taberna, has been added to the growing roster of broadcast personalities joining the Advanced Media Broadcasting System’s (AMBS) ALLTV.

Taberna signed the contract with AMBS President Maribeth Tolentino, AMBS General Counsel Atty. TJ Mendoza, and AMBS Chief Finance Officer Maryknoll Zamora at Mella Hotel in Las Piñas on Sept. 6. Taberna was accompanied by his wife and Outbox Media’s top executive, Rossel.

ALLTV is the newest television network joining the Philippine broadcast spectrum that aims to provide Filipino viewers an elevated TV experience in the country.

Tolentino cited Taberna’s high-trust rating as the reason why ALLTV tapped him as one of their pioneer talents.

“We welcome Mr. Anthony Taberna to our family. Ka Tunying’s intelligent insights on radio and TV make him one of the trusted news personalities in the country. He gives our public interesting views, news scoops, and entertaining programs, making him fit for ALLTV,” Tolentino said.

Taberna adds to the growing list of credible TV personalities joining ALLTV. The country’s top radio and TV commentator said he is humbled by ALLTV’s move to tap him as one of the pioneer broadcast personalities for the new TV network.

“Thank you po sa pamilya ng AMBS dahil pamilya niyo na ako ngayon. Salamat po sa tiwala ninyo sa akin. Alam ninyo, pinag-uusapan nga namin ng aking boss – ang aking misis – kung ano ang maiiambag natin sa larangan ng telebisyon. Sabi niya sa akin, 48 years (old) pa lang naman ako sa January. Kumbaga ay napakamura ko pa lang po para lumisan sa larangan ng telebisyon,” he said during the event.

Taberna, who has been in the broadcast industry for 30 years, said he is excited about this new partnership with ALLTV. “Ang pagsimula po ng aking pang-40 na taon sa pamamahayag, kasama ko po ang AMBS-ALLTV,” he said.

We are hoping that the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival movie of Vice Ganda with Ivana Alawi will have a better story than the past MMFF entries of the Unkabogable Star.

Award-winning box-office director Cathy Garcia-Molina is at the helm of this project. In case you live in the moon, you certainly know that Direk Cathy was the moving force behind the record-setting movie of Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards titled “Hello, Love Goodbye.”

For sure, Direk Cathy would want to keep the record of “Hello, Love Goodbye untarnished.” The Alden-Kathryn movie was praised for its good script and heartfelt performances of the leads.

We accept that all of Vice Ganda’s previous filmfest entries were blockbusters, true-blue moneymakers that cemented the comedian’s stock as a box-office draw. But if you examine closely the script of Vice Ganda’s movies, they are wanting in quality. There is so much to be desired in terms of tightness of the script and character development.

We agree that the fans of Vice Ganda like his films because these are escapist fare. The fans just want to be entertained. No matter how shallow the story, they would lap it up and laugh to their heart’s content.

But as a comedian, Vice Ganda should realize that his acting as well as the scripts of his movies should evolve. Enough of the inanities, corny jokes put together disguised as a movie.

We hope that Vice Ganda gives us a real, honest-to-goodness movie that doesn’t insult sensibilities. And we hope that Direk Cathy will guide Vice Ganda in that direction. It’s not too late for Vice Ganda to redeem himself and doing a movie with an intelligent script is the first step in that direction.

Ms. Cristine May Cruz-Busran, the mother of award-winning young actress Jhassy Busran, did make an effort to try and invite the P-pop group SB19 to her daughter’s 16th birthday celebration held Friday at Patio Ibarra in Quezon City.

But the universe did not conspire and Mommy Cristine failed in her attempt to make Jhassy’s birthday truly special. Nonetheless, Mommy Cristine still tried her best.

Jhassy just turned 16 but the preparations for her party was awesome. We can only imagine the scenario when Jhassy turns 18 two years from now.

The party was attended by family, close friends from showbiz, press people and some of Jhassy’s fans. Also present in was John Heindrick Sitjar, the leading man of Jhassy in her new movie titled “Home I Found in You.”

Even at a young age, Jhassy was able to extend help to her needy kababayans by initiating relief operations whenever there is a calamity. She packed relief goods for the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption as well those affected by recent typhoons.

“I believe that the more I share, the more that I will be blessed by the Lord so that I can continue helping others,” said Jhassy.
