Former ‘Voice Kids Ph’ finalist to vie for Miss Teen Universe

Former “The Voice Kids Philippines” contestant Kylie ‘Koko’ Luy has embarked on a new journey and there’s no turning back.

Although this 19-year old is a pageant newbie, Kylie is determined to prove that she deserves the appointment to represent the country in the most prestigious and biggest teen pageant in the world – Miss Teen Universe, which will be held from March 3 to 7 in Dubai, UAE. Her crowning ceremony was held February 15 at The Diamond Hotel Manila with the support of PAGCOR.

Towering at 5’10, Kylie is a head-turner. But what makes her even more attractive is the way she speaks – articulate and full of wisdom. She can speak with a British (she grew up in London before returning to the Philippines when she was 11 to join The Voice Kids Ph) and an American accent (she graduated from International School Manila). She is also an incoming freshman student at the Esmod Fashion Institute in France this September where she will take up Fashion Design.

According to Kylie, she didn’t expect that joining a pageant would be very challenging but she’s adjusting well especially with the physical training and other preparations. She admits that at first she was hesitant because she never imagined herself to be a beauty queen. She was more into music and arts.

Aside from singing, Kylie can play the guitar, piano and violin. In fact, she is also launching her musical career as she just recorded her self-composed single “Hey Mr. Perfect.” The song was arranged by veteran Rannie Raymundo and recorded at the studio of Vehnee Saturno.

Comedienne Marietta Subong, more popularly known as Pokwang, has added her name to the growing list of celebrity supporters of senatorial candidate and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.

Pokwang on Tuesday tweeted, “Dios mio panginoong mahabagin!! mag @ChelDiokno nalang ako!! kaloka sabi nga ni Gary V, dina natuto…”

In response, Diokno commented, “Naku po, chel ka lang @pokwang27. Maraming maraming salamat sa suporta.”

Pokwang then told Diokno that she’s a huge fan of his, to which Diokno replied, “I’m also a big fan of yours! My son Pepe speaks so highly of you!”, referring to his son, the award-winning director Pepe Diokno.

“Waaaahhh I love him napakabuting tao. Maganda pagpapalaki niyo sa kanya @PepeDiokno,” Pokwang responded.

Diokno has gained the support of various celebrities, including Vice Ganda and Heart Evangelista. He also rubbed elbows with other celebrity supporters during the campaign kickoff in Naga City. Among them were Rivermaya, Nikki Valdez, Cherry Pie Picache, Bituin Escalante, Agot Isidro and The Company.

If elected to the Senate, Diokno committed to establish access to free legal assistance in every barrio, like the Free Legal Helpdesk that he put up on his Facebook page, to provide ordinary citizens with immediate legal help.

He would also help strengthen the country’s barangay justice system by beefing up the capability of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in dealing with legal issues among residents. Improving the country’s barangay justice system will also help unclog the court dockets as cases can already be resolved at the barangay level.

The three children of Mayor Marcos Mamay got married just  months after the other. And the good mayor of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte decided to bring his children to Manila so they can meet their ninang, Ms. Imelda Papin.

It was through the invitation of Ms. Imelda that we got to meet Mayor Marcos, his wife Katimuan Binasing Mamay, who is head teacher of the school in Nunungan, and their children. The gathering also served as a belated birthday celebration for Imelda.

Their eldest daughter Ainnah married Atty. Harry Sultan on April 3, 2021; their second daughter Alliah married Hamzah Omar on July 19, 2021, while their youngest son Khalid married Amal Dimaporo just this February 20. Both Khalid and Amal are 16 years old.

Ainnah and Alliah are both dean’s listers in Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan), Cagayan de Oro City.

It is not a surprise for Muslims to marry at a young age since it is part of their culture. As far as Christians are concerned, we follow a tradition called “sukob” where children will have to wait for a year before getting hitched in case a sibling gets married.

Any Muslim male at least 15 years of age and any Muslim female of the age of puberty or upwards may contract marriage. A female is presumed to have attained puberty upon reaching 15.
