Jolo Estrada grabs chance to act anew
Making an acting comeback via the Joel Lamangan film “Moonlight Butterfly” under 3:16 Media Network of Janilyn Carillo is Jolo Estrada, the second son of former senator Jinggoy Estrada and Ms. Precy Ejercito-Estrada.
He thought he won’t enter showbiz anymore because he was focused on his business but when the pandemic hit, his manager Leo Dominguez reached out to him and asked if he wanted to return.
“I ended up saying yes after thinking long and hard about it. I realized not everyone is given a chance to be managed by LVD (his manager’s firm) so I grabbed the opportunity right away,” said Jolo via a Facebook messenger interview.
His immediate goal is to have a lead role that will challenge his acting capabilities. “I want to be part of a movie or a TV series that will leave a mark with the audience whether it is a drama or an action project,” he said.
Jolo’s consideration in accepting roles is if it can help him improve as an actor. In “Moonlight Butterfly,” he plays Dario, a nursing student and brother of Eunice, portrayed by Christine Belmas who is being launched in the movie.
“I accepted the role because Dario has an interesting story. I was originally offered to be one of the leading men but there were scene requirements which I cannot do,” shared Jolo.
He is looking forward to working with Direk Joel because he is one of the best in the industry and he knows he will learn a lot from him.
Since many filmmakers are making BL movies, will he be interested to do one if offered?
“I am open to be part of a BL project if the role is good since I am open to improving myself as an actor and getting all the experience I need.”
On his parents; reaction when he returned to acting, Jolo shared, “They were very supportive naman and I’m happy they are. They said that if I like what I am doing, why not pursue it?”
His Daddy Jinggoy also advised him to “always be ready for anything, especially during filming. I really need to study my role and to always come prepared,” said the 27-year-old.

Director Brillante Mendoza’s new movie “Gensan Punch” will be streamed on HBO Asia Original next month.
This latest project from the Cannes-winning filmmaker is about a Japanese boxer with a prosthetic leg who desires to turn pro.
The boxer trained in the Gensan Quarter in General Santos City, which became the home of many popular athletes including aspiring presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao.
“Gensan Punch” will also have a world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival next month as it vies for the Kim Jiseok Award at the Window on Asian Cinema section.
Come November, it will be shown in an out-of-competition gala selection of the Tokyo International Film Festival.
“Gensan Punch”, a co-production between Japan and the Philippines, features Japanese actor Shogen and Pinoy actors Ronnie Lazaro, Beauty Gonzales and Vince Rillon.
This is very good news since HBO Go is also featuring the six-part series “On the Job,” which recently won for John Arcilla the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival.
