State-of-the-art cinemas, skating rink at SM Seaside

CEBU, Philippines – Cebuanos will no longer have to go to Manila to experience ice skating as SM Seaside City has brought the first Olympic-size skating rink in Cebu.

SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., an entertainment arm of SM, opened the ice skating rink to the public last December 1, complementing the entertainment experience of the Cebuanos while inside the biggest mall in Cebu. SM Seaside City, which is a sprawling shopping mall with various amenities located at the heart of Cebu City’s South Road Properties, opened on November 27.

“Priding itself in being the only Olympic-size rink that can cater to sports on ice, SM Skating will be home to aspiring figure skaters, hockey players, and speed skaters,” read SM press release.

SM flew in figure skaters during the ceremonial ribbon-cutting last November 27. The skating rink, however, was only opened on December 1.

“SM believes in building athletes that can compete in different avenues of the global arena. We have a growing base of athletes-on-ice and we would like to discover the next Michael Martinez in Cebu,” said Edgar Tejerero, president of SM Lifestyle.

Since it opened, the skating rink has become a venue for families and barkadas, most of whom experienced ice skating for the first time.

Also last November 27, SM Lifestyle also opened its state and interactive bowling center and cinemas at SM Seaside.

Apart from the 16 modern synthetic lanes which uses state-of-the-art scoring system, the bowling center is equipped with KTV rooms, gaming facilities, a billiards section and a snack bar.

Meanwhile, the SM Seaside Cinemas are using laser projection system, said to be the first in Southeast Asia, thereby bringing movie-watching to a higher level. SM Seaside Cinemas has also introduced the Director’s Club, a 56-seater theater with personalized service for every movie-goer, plush leather seats and in-house butlers. This cinema is the first of its kind in Cebu, and has been fastly becoming a hit for cinema enthusiasts since it opened in November.
