The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – An indie film about a boy dreaming to be a seafarer to see his father will be screened at the University of Cebu-Maritime Education and Training Center’s first film festival dubbed “UCine Marino.”

“Dimalupig” will be screened at the five-day film festival together with the top three short films titled “Dream On Bai,” “Kahayag Likod sa Kangitngit” and “Faith and Fate” made by the students of the university.

Written and directed by J. Rhae Maranan, “Dimalupig” is a career advocacy film that depicts the hardships, passion, heart, and soul of Filipino seafarers who withstand big waves and homesickness to serve not just their families, but also their nation.

In cooperation with Silver Screen Productions and co-presented by Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC), the film stars award-winning stage and television actress Irma Adlawan, versatile film and TV actor Julio Diaz, indie film actor Orlando Sol, and a real-life skipper Captain Noli Ebora.

The story revolves around Manuel Dimalupig (Orlando Sol), who wishes to become a seafarer and sail the raging waves of the oceans in order to find his father. To achieve his dream, he has to first overcome various struggles and obstacles.

This film was created for the sole purpose of spreading awareness not just to students who dream of sailing the seas someday but to their families, friends, and everyone else that seafaring is not an easy job.

The film already had its initial run last March 22 at Star Theatre in Star City Complex, Pasay City.
