CEBU, Philippines - After 12 hours of grueling screening and deliberations, the 36th Cebu Popular Music Festival finally came up with its 12 finalists. The screening was held at the Univesity of the Visayas–Main Campus Alumni Office last Saturday.

At least 150 entries were submitted for the 2016 competition, the finals night of which is scheduled in January.

Four compositions were selected for the following categories: Environmental, Inspirational and Love Song.

Selected UV staff and the crew of Soundtraxx Production Studio composed of Gloria Viilarojo, Gani Villarojo, Roland Villarosa and Bea  Daitol organized the screening process.

Members of the screening panel were Baby Condeno, Sam Costanilla, Roger Serna, Eli Gonzales Manlangit, Apple Abarquez, Sanden Anadia, Fr. Lyndon Ruiz, Cerj Michael and Manolito Languido.

The annual Cebu Pop competition was a brainchild of former congressman Eduardo R. Gullas, as his offering to the Señor Sto. Niño and his contribution in keeping the Cebuano music industry alive.
