Teachers request for AlDub

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

There’s really no stopping the AlDub phenomenon. The much-talked about and followed Kalye Serye of “Eat Bulaga” garnered 12.1 million tweets nationwide and the hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate was trending worldwide last Saturday. So immense was the tweeting power of AlDub fans that even people abroad, including celebrities like Taiwan superstar Barbie Xu of “Meteor Garden” fame got wind of the phenomenon.

So hot is the AlDub tandem that teachers who are attending the Teacherfest, a project of PLDT’s Gabay Guro Foundation, are requesting that Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza be invited to the event. This was relayed to the press by Ms. Chaye Cabal-Revilla, head of the PLDT Gabay Guro Foundation, at the press launch held Saturday.

Thousands of teachers from all over the country will gather once again at the Mall of Asia Arena for PLDT Gabay Guro’s grand Teacherfest.

The event, an embodiment of the “I Inspire” campaign, is a salute, a celebration, and a renewal of Gabay Guro’s commitment to the proud profession of teaching through trainings, scholarships, livelihood and life enhancing programs so they can continuously change lives.

This teachers’ month, Gabay Guro mounts a big tribute event, the Teacherfest, at the MOA Arena on September 27 from 1 p.m. onwards, and is expected to generate almost 20,000 teachers representing the different schools, public and private, from all over the Philippines. Admission is free. Like the Gabay Guro Facebook page to know how you can join the event.

To lend glitter and fun to the occasion, hot young loveteam James Reid and Nadine Lustre will be there, as well as world-class talents El Gamma Penumbra, Leo Valdez, Ima Castro, among others. Sterling names in the music firmament will be taking center-stage headlined by the Songbird Ms. Regine Velasquez, Concert Kings Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and Basil Valdez, Concert Queens Kuh Ledesma and Pops Fernandez, among others. Musical direction is by Raul Mitra.

Through the years, Gabay Guro’s tribute events have been known for their excellent raffle prizes being given to the deserving teachers. This year is no less in scale as Gabay Guro is giving away two house and lots from Amaia and Perry’s Group of Companies, Gratour Van from Foton, three motorcycles from Honda, Suzuki and Ropali Corp., livelihood packages from KaAsenso Cyberya, Sun and Talk N Text; cash prizes from Pro Friends and PECCI, travel package from First United Corp., and a lot more from Asian Secret, Bear Brand, Clover, Enchanted Kingdom, Ever Bilena, National Bookstore, Penshoppe, phCare, Red Planet Hotels, Samsung Business, Shakey’s, Toy Kingdom, among others. Phil Life, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Red Cross will be on hand the whole day as the official event’s medics.

We had the chance to interview Diego Loyzaga at the launch of the Bench Fix Styling Tools held at the SM Mega Fashion Hall last Sunday. Diego, who appears in the ABS-CBN series “Pangako Sa ‘yo,” said he had been an endorser of Bench since 2011 and he is very proud to have been tapped anew by the famed brand.

“It’s a big honor to be part of this campaign since most Bench endorsers are handpicked. To be chosen as an endorser again is a big accomplishment,” said the son of Cesar Montano and actress Teresa Loyzaga.

After appearing in the highly-successful “Forevermore,” Diego is playing third wheel to the Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla tandem in the “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” remake. He said it is hard to be in a love triangle involving the most popular teen tandem on TV.

“I’m not saying that because I’m part of the show but I am sure you are aware how popular the KathNiel tandem is,” he said. “I have to work hard on my role which has undergone some changes. I am no longer a third wheel. I have a line which says ‘Ang hirap pala lumaban kapag wala kang kalaban-laban.’ That was my line and that’s really how it is.”

Just like any celebrity, Diego has his own share of bashers. How does he deal with them? “All stars have bashers. I actually love my bashers because they tell me where I need to improve in my craft. In that way, I know where I should focus. Like if they say my Tagalog is bad then I have to improve it. If they say I look good, well, I am sorry,” said Diego with a laugh.

What he doesn’t like is when bashers talk bad about his family. “They don’t know my family and they really don’t know what’s going on. If you won’t be happy in what  you are saying, don’t say it at all. If you want to talk bad about me, it’s fine, but please don’t talk bad about my family because you don’t know my family,” he said.

The latest Regal movie “Resureksyon,” starring Isabelle Daza, Jasmine Curtis Smith, Paulo Avelino, John Lapus and Alex Castro, had a successful premiere at the Gateway Cinema last night. The movie is directed by Borgy Torre and is a joint venture between Regal Entertainment and Reality Entertainment.

Direk Borgy, a protégé of Erik Matti, won the Best Director award at the Cinema One Originals Festival two years ago. “Resureksyon” is his first attempt in doing a horror film and it bears watching if this has enough shock value to scare the wits out of moviegoers.

But more than being a horror flick, “Resureksyon” is also a family drama. How to blend horror and drama is quite a challenge for the director. The movie opens today in theaters nationwide.
