Robert Pattinson still hates attention

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Robert Pattinson’s “Twilight” days are behind him, but he’s still rattled by the experience of being thrust into the spotlight so quickly.

To recall, before he played Edward Cullen, the most high-profile thing Pattinson had done was play a minor part in a “Harry Potter” movie. After ‘Twilight’ — the first of the $1 billion franchise’s five films — hit theaters, Pattinson saw a definite change.

“It was six months before the second ‘Twilight’ movie came out,” the actor told Cosmopolitan Germany of a night he’d been invited to a club in L.A. “The doorman just looked at me and said, ’It’s okay, you can go in.’ I was like ‘What?’ Up until then I never was let into clubs that easily.”

Twihards’ obsession with Pattinson was soon out of control. His moody, romantic image and his real-life relationship with co-star Kristen Stewart only made him more of a heartthrob.

“I never wanted to become famous,” Pattinson said. “I’m satisfied with small things. The more famous I became, the more I wanted to hide out. The hype was irritating to me.”

Seven years out, the actor noted that the situation has somewhat improved with the passage of time. “The ‘Twilight’ fans got older and it’s a lot more relaxed now,” he said.

But there’s still that one nagging thing.

“I don’t like to draw attention to myself, but I can’t walk around without being recognized,” he noted. “If people would say a quick 'hello,’ it would be fine, but every second person wants to do a selfie. That means I always have to be in a good mood.” (FREEMAN)
