Gregorian Choir of Paris to perform at Ayala Center Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - The world-renowned Gregorian Choir of Paris is coming to the Philippines for the first time to perform a series of concerts that aim to spread a spiritual message of hope and solidarity after the recent upheavals in the country caused by calamities. In Cebu, the live performance will be held exclusively at The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu on February 22, Sunday at 7 p.m.
Formed in 1974, the ensemble has dedicated itself to cultivating the traditional Gregorian chant through the preservation and dissemination of such through liturgical ceremonies and concerts around the world. “It is the most beautiful treasure that we possess in Europe,” Olivier Messiaen, one of the major composers of the 20th century, said.
The international choir gathers musicians from different countries with singers from Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Madagascar, Russia, Slovak Republic and South Korea among others. It is divided into a male choir and female choir with the latter created 20 years after in 1994.
For its Philippine tour, the Gregorian Choir of Paris will be bringing in 26 male and female choristers together with French organist Pascal Marsault. The series of concerts will be held in Ayala Malls nationwide starting at the Alabang Town Center on February 18 then heading to Greenbelt 5, Makati on February 20; Ayala Center Cebu on February 22; Centrio Mall, Cagayan de Oro on February 25; and Abreeza Mall Davao on February 27. The choir will also perform on at the historical San Agustin Church in Intramuros Manila on February 19 to celebrate the 450-year presence of the Augustinians in the Philippines.
The Gregorian Choir of Paris Philippine Tour is presented by Ayala Malls as part of its continued aim to bringing international talents and world-class performances to the country. It is supported by Alliance Francaise de Manille, Alliance Francaise de Cebu and the French Embassy, and is endorsed by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
