Chris Hemsworth feared fatherhood
CEBU, Philippines - He’s 6’3” and plays a powerful Norse god onscreen, but Chris Hemsworth admits he had a crippling fear.
In a new interview with GQ for their January 2015 issue, the Aussie hunk – now a married father of three — revealed he was terrified of becoming a dad.
“I was worried about just not screwing it up,” the 31-year-old actor said of fatherhood, when asked to name something that scared the hell out of him.
Chris, who married actress Elsa Pataky, 38, in 2010, wasn’t scared of marriage or settling down though, as he’d already had his wild days back in Australia as a soap star on “Home and Away.”
“The fame, the parties, the women – I did that stuff back home, when I was on the show,” he said. “I got away with a lot more over there. Then I came here [to film 2010’s ‘Ca$h’] and sort of started over.”
Chris also opened up about younger brother Liam Hemsworth’s love life. You know, the “Hunger Games” star who was famously engaged to Miley Cyrus.
“I’ve watched Liam do things I did at his age, like being in relationships he shouldn’t be in, or being reckless just to prove a point. And I had no empathy,” he said. “My mom had to remind me I was the same way.”
While Chris gave Liam a hard time, Chris said his older brother, Luke, gave him a hard time as well.
However, the actor credits Luke with helping him gain confidence and be a better person.
“Back when I was still on the soap, I became incredibly insecure and full of anxiety because I didn’t know if I was any good. Yet I wanted it so bad,” he said. “I spent years being angsty, constantly telling people I wasn’t just part of a soap opera, that I was a real artist. And I remember Luke sort of snapping, telling me to shut up, that he was sick of hearing it.”
