Time mag slammed for including Jenners in Influential list

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Kendall and Kylie Jenner earned the number 17 spot on Time Magazine’s 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014 list, but a number of critics and youngsters alike are slamming the publication for including the reality stars with youngsters like Malala Yousafzai, who is the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. And for the record, Yousafzai was behind the Jenner girls on the list at the number eighteen spot.

Time notes that the girls have “hosted red-carpet events, released clothing and nail polish lines and even published a dystopian young-adult novel this past summer.” Well, let’s not forget that the girls had another writer helping them, and the only reason their apparel and beauty collections got picked up was because they are reality TV stars.

As far as comments on social media, one Twitter user wrote, “What’s wrong with this magazine?” and another teen wrote, “If I live in a world where Time names Kendall and Kylie Jenner as the most influential people of 2014 I don’t want to be a part of it any longer.”

“We are so honored to be included on the Time magazine list of ‘Most Influential Teens,’” Kendall and Kylie told E! News. “There are incredible teens on this list and we are so proud to be in their company.”

The young celebrities featured on the prestigious list are certainly leaving their marks on the world. For example, Malala Yousafzai just became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in honor of her activism towards women’s education. Sasha Obama and Malia Obama, Jaden Smith, Austin Mahone and Lorde are also featured online.

For better or worse, most of the attention has been put on the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” stars for their spot on the list. While some have disagreed with Time’s decision, others like talk show host Wendy Williams support the decision 100 percent.

“They are influential to teens!” Williams declared on her self-titled talk show Tuesday. “Either teen girls want to look like them or dress like them. They follow them on Instagram. They should be on this list, that’s all!”

Time magazine pointed out the girls’ business projects both on and off camera when explaining why they deserved a spot. Today, the tight sisters remain busier than ever. In addition to filming season 10 of their popular E! reality show, the twosome is hard at work on separate projects. Kylie is gearing up for the launch of  her own hair extensions line while Kendall continues to travel all around the world for modeling  gigs.
