Carla Abellana sets the record straight

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Award-winning actress Carla Abellana cleared a lot of issues at the presscon of her latest movie under Regal Entertainment titled “So It’s You” which co-stars her with Tom Rodriguez and Bangs Garcia.

After her much-publicized break-up with Geoff Eigenman (her boyfriend for more than four years), Carla earned a lot of bashers online and there were also people who said the reason why she broke up with Geoff was because she wanted to reconcile with former bf JC Intal, who we all know is already engaged to Bianca Gonzalez and are already planning to get married.

According to Carla, while she was on her way to the presscon, she promised the manager of Geoff that she won’t mention his name. Carla related how different she and her ex-bf are when it comes to their goals and views about life. Said differences made it difficult for them to salvage their relationship. It was a mutual decision to part ways.

“Whatever our reasons, we’d like to keep it to ourselves. Besides, our breakup doesn’t involve other people,” said Carla who added that she is happy that JC and Bianca are soon tying the knot. She also said that JC had long wanted to get married and have kids.

In the movie “So It’s You,” Carla is playing the role of woman who is bubbly and somewhat happy-go-lucky but who can’t get over her ex-boyfriend (JC De Vera). Does she feel the same in real life? “Actually, I’m in a process that each day is a step forward. Each day is a chance to move on. Lira (my character), she really can’t get over. Her heart and mind are in a quandary. She can’t decide what to do,” she said.

“As Carla, I really know what is in my heart. It is very clear what it is that I wanted that was why it was not hard for me to decide. No matter how difficult it was, my heart and mind are clear as to what I wanted. I prayed hard so that my heart and mind will be opened.”

She also denied reports that she got drunk and that she even called up Tom to keep her company.“That’s not true. Kung anuman ang pinagdadaanan ko, ayoko nang idamay si Tom doon. Bakit ko pa siya gagamitin? Bakit ko pa siya...It sounds so desperate lang, ‘di ba? I’m surrounded by my family who loves me, my best friends are there. Bakit of all people, ‘di ba, si Tom pa ang gagambalain ko? Ang daming nakapaligid na nagmamahal sa akin, so kung may kailangan man ako, sila ‘yung lalapitan ko. No, I’m not that desperate. That’s not Carla. Hindi po ako ganu’n,” she said.

Carla said that as much as possible she didn’t want to talk about the breakup because Geoff’s name is being dragged into the controversy. She doesn’t want to be accused of using the breakup to promote her movie.

Is it possible for her to fall in love again?  “There is always the possibility but not now!” she said.

“Feels like going back home,” replied Robi Domingo when we asked how he felt being one of the hosts of PBB All In. Robi was a former PBB housemate and emerged as first runner-up to Ejay Falcon who was the grand winner.

Robi feels privileged to be chosen as of the hosts of PBB All In. He has learned a lot being a part of the show, first as a housemate and then later as one of its segment hosts. The show opened his doors to showbiz.

Aside from PBB , ASAP and the recently concluded Pinoy Biggest Loser, Robi has a forthcoming show in a cable channel. He is not in the liberty to disclose details of the show yet but he is excited about it because it talks about men and their interests. Sports personalities will be the featured guests and he will be sharing hosting chores with a popular sports figure.

We asked Robi if he is not wishing to be part of a teleserye and he answered he believes he has found his niche in hosting.  It is where he excels. But if there is one show format that he wants to try, it is doing a travel show where he can explore many places.

Robi will again be joining John and Bianca along with newbie Alex in “Uber,” which will air on weekday afternoons on Kapamilya Gold. He attributes their chemistry to them being former housemates who can relate to the goings-on inside the “PBB” house. Robi was the second placer in the show’s second teen edition, while Bianca and John joined its first celebrity edition.

Composer Calvin King is back in Manila after many years of absence. His name may not ring a bell but to Cebuanos, they know him as the composer of “May Katuparan” which was recorded by Vina Morales under Sunshine Records when Vina was still quite young and was just signed up by Viva Entertainment. Vina, as we all know, was discovered in Cebu.

Now that he is back in Manila, Calvin wants to revive his career as a composer. Well, he really didn’t stop. In a recent interview, he said he has quite a number of compositions waiting to be recorded. In fact, he has songs that he meant to give to Sarah Geronimo, Enrique Gil and Angeline Quinto, all artists of ABS-CBN.

For Enrique, he has composed a dance tune titled “Love on the Run,” with lyrics by his friend Jude Bryan. He says the song has a K-pop feel and since Enrique moves and dances very well, the song suits him to a T. Besides, Enrique is a hot property right now and can soar even higher given the right push.

Calvin says Angeline’s voice is very expressive and he also wrote a song for her, same with Sarah. All of these songs are new and had never been recorded.

“I want to share my talent as a composer to fellow Filipinos. I believe we have what it takes to conquer the music world. If the Koreans can do it with K-pop, we can also do so with our music,” he said.
