What ‘Higher Love’ means to Angeline Quinto

CEBU, Philippines - Changes are inevitable, more so if it is for the purpose of upgrading one’s calibre. From the simple girl who once dreamed of making it big in the music industry, she has now become a must-see and must-hear singer in the country.

Angeline Quinto’s career has skyrocketed after she won “Star Power” few years back. She has become a household name, with her songs making it to the top spot in the different music charts.

This year marks another milestone for Angeline, as she had just released her third solo album “Higher Love” produced by Star Records. It has 21 tracks which include ten minus one versions of her songs and a diva-mix for her original composition “Sana2x.”

“Sana2x” is her first original composition. It is about a one-sided kind of relationship where one totally likes someone, but keeps his/her feelings deep inside. “Sana tayo nalang, sana ako nalang, sana ako ang tinitibok ng puso mo,” as the lyrics go.

“Noong time na nagawa ko yung kanta sobrang happy lang ako at iniisip ko lang yung taong nagpapasaya sa akin. Unti-unti nabuo ko yung kanta. ‘Sana2x’ kasi sana gusto ko minsan dumating yung time na mapansin ako ng taong gusto ko,” Angeline shared in an interview after her Feb. 8 promo show at Ayala Centre Cebu’s The Terraces. 

“Higher Love” features songs such as “Babalik Kang Muli,” “Nag-iisa Lang,” “Sino Ako Sa ’Yo,” “Kung Sakali Man,” “Ako Na Lang,” “Ikaw Ang Aking Mundo,” “Bring Back The Times,” and the title track “Higher Love.”

It speaks of the various ideas of love as presented in her upbeat debut track and the different songs featured in the album. Producer, Jonathan Manalo, wrote the title track and also penned the melody to “Sana2x.”

For Angeline or “Angge,” as fondly called by her friends, “Higher Love” has two meanings. “Una, para sa akin wala namang ibang pina-kamataas na pagmamahal kundi ang sa Panginoon. Yun talaga ang pinaka-unang ibig sabihin. Pangalawa ay tungkol sa personal kong buhay. Naging matured ako sa buhay pag-ibig ko talaga.”

While they were still on the process of making this third album, Angeline and her producer noticed that they lacked upbeat songs. “Gusto ko kasi itong third album ko na lahat ng klaseng kanta may magawa kami. May love song, inspirational song, pang-broken-hearted na kanta, alam mo yun para lahat ng tao maka-relate.”

Dubbed as the “Queen of Teleserye Songs,” Angeline sang “Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin,” during her mall show and stated that she loves the carrier single because she can relate to it. It is also the official soundtrack of ABS-CBN’s newest teleserye “The Legal Wife.”

Throughout the years, Angeline has successfully upgraded herself creatively and visually through her transformations, making her more likeable to her fans.

“Sobra talaga ang pasasalamat ko sa mga Cebuanos, kasi alam ko naman na hindi  ako makakabalik dito kung hindi dahil sa suporta niyo. So every time na babalik ako dito talagang sobra ang tuwa sa puso ko at pasasalamat para sa mga taong nandito at sumusuporta sa akin.” (FREEMAN)
