Brillante Mendoza at SM City Consolacion

CEBU, Philippines - The newly installed French Knight by France, film director Brillante Mendoza is set to meet and greet his supporters in SM City Consolacion on today, 6 p.m. at the Event Centre. The film director will grace the opening of the Brillante Mendoza Film Festival.

In receiving the title “Chevalier” in the French Order of Arts and Letters, Mendoza, 53, the only Filipino to win the best director award in the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival, joins the cinema and arts luminaries such as Clint Eastwood, Bob Dylan, Sharon Stone, Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kylie Minogue in the roster of the order.

He won the award for Best Director for his film “Kinatay” at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. His 2009 film “Lola” won the award for Best Film at the 6th Dubai International Film Festival His 2012 film “Captive” was shown in competition at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012. His 2012 film “Thy Womb” competed for the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.

Mendoza will bring four of his internationally-acclaimed and multi-awarded films – “Lola,” “Kaleldo,” “Foster Child,” and “Manoro.” Movies will be shown for free on Jan. 28, 8:30 a.m. at SM Cinemas in SM City Consolacion.  (FREEMAN)
